From the -- Wisconsin sports fans come. -- -- -- I. Had a good Monday morning hey guys good morning Wisconsin welcome to -- -- show. It is across this great state. Of Wisconsin. My name is Tim Allen know now bill Michaels -- don't bill Michaels. He. He gets a cool day off. Marriage basis is alongside kind of steering the ship as well Ryan road behind the glass that's that's who we call him. A bill Michaels he gets he gets a great day -- think about it. -- you wanna tell our listeners -- -- that. This well you -- bill originally. Spent the time in Cincinnati grew up around there and -- knows those guys -- reds are in town -- chance to hit the links and spend some time with. I just thought it Marty Brennaman -- like that yeah it was -- -- not like just -- golf with one of the greatest baseball broadcasters. Of all time. You know speaking of -- in Maryville. Arizona. Covering. The Brewers for. The Milwaukee affiliate is as well as the bill Michaels seller called -- jump and with you guys that timer to the spring. Sitting in one of the boos at -- baseball park ice so didn't belong there the seriously because in the Booth. Right there was Bob Duke -- in the Booth right there Marty Brennaman. And then you have Tim now. It didn't it didn't seem these things is not like I felt very small that don't. It was it was self mills but -- got a lot to talk about today. Not coming of one hour from right now. Milwaukee Bucks talk. And that some people may not like what I have to say. About that franchise about that organization. So stick around for that come -- up in about one hour from right now talk a little bit now we'll talk quite a bit. About the Milwaukee Brewers in there are certainly challenged right now. Also at the bottom of the hour here -- care of -- Will join us and he wrote a book. About small town baseball. I thought it was pretty insisting in -- and sort of that baseball guy. That we've done we have Brian and I'll tell you all about that a league in the state of Wisconsin and I wasn't even aware -- And that's I thought that was a rather insisting. Amateur league. But I think it's it's worth talking to Brian -- -- he wrote a -- -- on that topic former Brewers pitcher Paul Wagner will join us today. Out we'll talk some NASCAR today. So a lot to talk about youth sports. And how parents can become the hole leads. Idiots when it comes to their kids and sports. I can't wait to talk about that you could use sports guy you've got -- slump -- ball so he's fifteen maybe sixteen a couple of month I'm guessing you've got. Good example -- an example I was -- it. You go -- result on one time you know one time got a little bit out of control. But you know I learned. And so we we took care of that but. You know what will talk a lot about that vein of sports. And again American legion. Not real familiar with American legion baseball. And we'll talk about with with the representative from The American Legion about baseball. Matt. The number one draft choice for the New York Mets. A legion based. Lot of Dallas -- get out of Wyoming did not have -- high school baseball team. The majority of his play was American legion ball he'd done some baseball kind of a -- stuff as well but. American legion -- where people for saw this kid be a first round draft. That death didn't I read somewhere where Johnny -- didn't play but you know handful of Little League games. He wasn't on a travel team or anything like that so that. Good talent exists. In small town America like to thank our affiliates here on the bill Michaels -- As always Sports Radio 1250 WS -- in Milwaukee. New stock thirteen thirty WH BL in Savoy again Sports Radio 1440. WNFL. In Green Bay fox Sports Radio thirteen -- Sports Radio 57 the mayor and -- my nominee. And ESPN 92 point three in Mars field so thanks for being a -- we appreciate them again my name is Tim Allen if you don't. Recognize the name and I don't think you should but so we'll -- I introduced myself -- I do the Bruce post game show on our Milwaukee affiliate. Have been doing that about seven years. And those of -- that ever heard bill Michaels and I have had a conversation about our careers being somewhat similar in the regard that. You know we've done FM. Rock radio FM country radio. A lot of talk radio obviously sports stocks so very similar -- although. I'm not comparing myself to bill Michaels he's out golf in the day when Marty Brennaman you can't do that. So -- -- is alongside Ryan road behind the glass and -- thanks for thanks for listening today okay the Milwaukee Brewers -- -- off. -- take a horrendous road trip in many different regards in one of -- is the success rate on the win loss column. And that is a three and six road trip not good not. You know a complete meltdown something you can recover from because it was just the the win loss. You know three and sixty come home back you win six of your -- last nine -- even through the eighteen games okay you're okay with that right. But. With what they lost due to injury. I'm just -- curious whether or not. You know they can recover from this. At twelve and sixteen overall there's a tremendous amount of talent on that team those of you -- in the post and -- on the Milwaukee affiliate yesterday. Do you. You heard -- crabby Tim -- And I was as I was his pick and everything. Usually you're the voice of reason you -- the optimistic usually miss sunshine on that -- but usually. Yet. -- that was. Who -- -- brewer games and all county stadium since 1972. Well on the back of my dance motorcycle. Believe -- -- now. We'd go and just grab a of a cheap ticket and and go on in and and just have loved Brewers baseball ever since and you're right. Normally I'm a little bit more on the optimistic side once in awhile -- fall off that little edge in -- will crabby and yesterday certainly was at. You know rightly so a lot of things with. Starting -- stack up. Expectations for this team coming off the 96. Win. Division title season to the NLCS. Things just are not getting off to a good start and I think everyone. Understands that. Review of one month review from the brass at Miller Park -- probably going on right now I would think as we speak. The left to 10 AM. Brewers GM Doug Melvin. It's -- in his. You know through our our meeting and and they're gonna try to figure some things out and there's a lot to figure out. Is at the end of the world that they lose -- gamble. Probably not the in the world. Maybe Taylor Green steps in and and does a nice job. Because we don't know what -- Campbell would have done -- -- -- for all we know it at 241 with twelve homers. I -- we don't we just don't know that so not the end of the world -- this is this is happier more optimistic. Viewpoint. And Carlos Gomez you had depth there the one position you did have depth great depth them. So he could you recover from that and plus he wasn't -- for the for the entire season. So you were OK there you can recover from that other -- that Gonzales Alex Gonzales saying a little concern. That 18 that -- top. But not the end of the world you win in baseball with pitching and defense. But. You know. Are the expectations now all that your one month then. Have they now changed. Now do you view the Brewers a little bit different. You probably do you probably have to. Absolutely I'll tell -- what I what I look at this team right now this is going to be a and we -- make a comparison to another sport from the weekend. And I don't know how many people out there wants to but the big event Kentucky Derby was sent it right yeah and I -- a big. -- fan union rags was a favorite in that race was one of the -- people thought was gonna be there and had a real shot to win it yeah. Union -- got -- come out of the gate by another horse got -- got off to a bad break right out of the starting gate. And was twenty lengths back before they hit the first turn. There are your Milwaukee Brewers right now and now union rags came back and finished seventh. Which isn't bad for being nice -- -- recovery but still it was seventy and that's that's nowhere near the money and right now the Brewers are union ranks. And here's what I wanted to happen. Coming into this season coming off again and 961 season franchise mark in wins and 9696. Remember this team was what 500 after 46 games last year. There were four games under 500 maybe five games under 500 in May of last year. And the recovered for 96 -- With a little good luck last year that have been a 100 wins -- team. In 2011. But still it a great year let's let's face it. Now you have to look at it at twelve and sixteen now you got to recover as you said you -- Can -- I look at it now -- maybe it it is the rallying cry around the team. Maybe this is as I was say in the last couple -- days once -- injuries at the little injury -- -- that could. Maybe that's what they do now because they're gonna have to find it in themselves I I just think there's there's an energy Zach. And that that needs to happen just -- just a lightning strike of some kind and again -- yet to be Smart about the moves you make but. We'll talk more about the Brewers to go to take a break here here's what I want to do. Just so you -- -- future reference not just today. But the phone number -- the bill Michaels you know. All right you guys ready and putting -- contact. In your cell -- ready for this -- 855830864. A little bit slower now this -- on. At this hour or next hour or tomorrow or next Thursday you've got the number just put it in there as you. It's 855830. -- -- it 55830. 86 for eight and the Brewers recover from this -- pretty simple question. I think they can you win with pitching and defense. Now the defense took a hit but the pitching. Is still there you're listening to the bill Michaels show. And welcome back to the -- bill -- -- it is Tim Allen in for bill Michaels thanks for listening today. Happy Monday -- you guys. -- of whether a bright don't worry about it. I tell you can email -- -- bill Michaels -- bill Michaels sports dot com and the number once again -- bit slower 855. 830. You and 85583086. Or -- -- talking about the Brewers in the first half hour of the -- today and you know a couple weeks ago on on the Milwaukee affiliate post game show. I I asked the question coming off a big win and it was. This this team playoff team. And the phones there's is -- -- -- or play up to 96 -- team one could actually make an argument that the team is better this year. All all things being equal topped the -- OK I know you lose friends but now you look at it at twelve and sixteen. Are they a playoff team now. They still have guys are no Greinke and Marcum Marcum is pitching great this year it was face it. You may not like him. Because he he tailed off -- last year let's face -- -- been consistent this year and they need that there's been little consistency of the rotation he's been. Probably as consistent starters they -- when you look at the bullpen now K rod a few bumps in the road there. Yes but if you look at -- -- many pars fits in well Cameron lowest pitch and well. John expert is lights out the bullpen isn't as bad as you would think on on the surface so again are they a playoff team. Can they recover at twelve and sixteen to make -- last member there's an additional playoff team this year. He get that extra wild card this year which certainly could help a team like the Brewers. When you when you you know -- try to answer the question yourself are they a playoff team you -- You know consider the it factor into the equation. -- what moves are. The Brewers gonna make. Is -- gonna do something before the Brewers. A before I take them and say that they're not a playoff team. -- wanna see what they do on this homestand you when you're going out west you're always going to struggle. I'd like to see if they can come back home circle the wagons that I -- -- -- this -- deal with. The injuries are something you can't prevent him is that they're gonna happen -- they got lucky in that they were very healthy. This year not so much out of the gate but so come home see what they do against Cincinnati if you can hit Cincinnati in the mouth take two out of three. -- sweep the reds. Then you're making a statement in your division and and you're getting yourself. Back up and give the team the second place first and then we'll talk about. Having any shot -- the Cardinals -- taken serious yeah that's -- as taking a division series at home and be a great way to start. What you gonna have to win the 4311 inning games. No doubt the engines it's gonna have to win those 31 games the 32 games. Is the offense the same. As last year and Lou. And -- isn't close now LeBron in -- it was one incredible. Incredible tandem. It really wasn't I I don't know I did my best the last few years pinch myself every time. That they did to be a hot streak say -- -- witness in sums national. In Milwaukee for Brewers baseball. But that being said they're gonna have to -- we spend some of these tighter games good pitching. You know Tim Dillard yesterday. What was I the only one that said the game was over the second Dillard was out there. It just didn't feel right and that's the thing about this team before you answer the question are they a playoff team. -- you know you have to really. You you have to look at it in in terms of some changes that are coming. -- and deal would be on the roster in two months I don't know. Vinnie Chulk. Is on the roster. Little what do you do exempt -- you've got three guys out right now I -- so I know and while that's what stuff dance of their playoff team now. It 558308648. -- you want to answer that question because when you start but the taking inventory. We can be let's look at it. Vinnie Chulk. Edwin Mason -- Let's though Taylor Green George Qatar as Travis Ishikawa. Like the guys in Major League read in the newspaper the beginning of spring training who are these guys. Yeah well and it's it's no knock it no rip on any one guy -- George guitarists is a nice player. Yeah he's a nice back up catcher he's a really good back up catcher with some power. From the left side off the balance when he's -- you know additional playing time -- right now the news about your fourth best offensive player. Well yeah I mean and again and can he can you really say that their playoff team do you think their playoff team and I think it's fair that -- question. When -- asked that when they were on a hot streak. -- of that if they were a playoff team. And now -- -- certainly need to to flip the coin and say hey man and -- are they a playoff team now considering everything that's happened at twelve and sixteen. At 55830. 86 or eight we go to Tony in Milwaukee you're on the bill Michaels -- -- Tony. And what's happened out at all I think that first I told figure out but I output in -- a playoff team you know here. I think that they are believed in the -- -- that they were good scheme good or maybe a little bit not a you know a little bit left thought they were last year. And Adam complainants are there at the plate to -- it seem that the -- last here. I'll be good thing ended that there would be more missing here is the -- I think we're amid tight door talking a lot more. -- and -- stayed -- is. This year I don't remember it would be polite but they brought site always and be -- loaded nobody out. But the bottom of the tenth -- eleventh and he got all of it in double brought. There were but yesterday -- -- -- -- open that situation. -- one -- and he told him all. Like all over the -- I think the bullpen that we're we're gonna really booed knocking print goes big -- But I think old friend and pitching that's where you winning game and I think that for the Brewers are really -- -- That said Tony thanks for the call 8558308648. My name is Tim Allen in for bill Michaels on the bill Michaels so talking about the Brewers and and Tony brings have a great point I'm right with a that was my biggest concern heading into 2012. Was the bullpen. -- you can't lose guys like -- on Hawkins in again you look over the course of their their careers they've had. Years in which they worked as good. But when you get those types of bullpen pitchers Matt belie -- of the world don't tells of the world. Site -- and Hawkins of the you know what sometimes they put it together and -- just a great fit the great combination. And to lose both of those guys. And you fill it with Jose barest I like him -- I think -- numbers bear it out he's a durable guy. I like him a lot so you just replaced one of them and you're gonna place the other with Cameron low. Or Manny Parra. I don't know men that that that was to me a concern heading -- Tony year you are right there and I will. Disagree with the on. Coming into this season. How you couldn't think they were a playoff team. Outside of that that one basically 11 and a half bullpen pitchers right there. It K rod and actually at the end there you fill the sixth and seventh with Paris and then either lower around many -- -- know do what you gotta do. Again coming in it's still the same road -- it was still lists in rotation your defense -- in theory is actually better. -- -- -- Now again Tony though Vegas agrees with you. I think Vegas had their over and under is -- like 82 or 83 wins. Pasts. A lot of the baseball magazines previews and stuff agreed to them they had the Brewers and third for a lot of them we had. Some people who didn't feel the way I know rob not -- came on the show and and thought the Brewers had a really good shot Tibet and bad. -- be a playoff team have been a few guys -- did I thought they did know. Maybe I'm blinded a little bit but vehicles with the team even I thought this team and that playoff. -- -- -- -- -- -- Baseball as the bill -- -- moves on a little bit later on we will talk about the box got some NASCAR. And coming up but the other top of the hour. Some people around the Bradley Center -- -- out like what I have to say. About the -- in there. Organizational situation it 5583. -- unit that's it 5583086. -- you can email was -- today bill Michaels. -- bill Michaels showed dot com. Meant regular Michael sports that I'm sorry bill -- sports dot com you -- -- -- alongside. By name is Tim Allen in for bill Michaels today on the bill Michaels show. Yeah. And welcome back. Allen in for bill Michaels then bill Michaels show thanks for listening. I just cruising around the world -- sports today. Thanks for listening on this Monday. If you want to reach to show it via email. Bill Michaels that bill Michaels sports dot com this bill Michaels at bill Michaels sports. Dot com or 85583. -- -- -- -- 85583086. Or eight. A metric -- is alongside let's bring our gas now and have a little conversation about small town baseball this is good stuff right here Brian caribou. Is our guests today he wrote a book called big league drama. In small town America it's just the game the book is called Brian thanks for joining us. No problem things for having me. Yeah I'm not about well first of all when I was reading a little bit about your book -- which I have not read the actual book yet. But in in just read a little bit about it what league are we talking about I think if you called it home baseball as it. Ball. All load is called the whole violently he would probably standard mostly around and it's been. It -- a little bit more said that both big east and the west probably outside the suburbs of Milwaukee a little bit and Allan Blake. Op board Atkins and Whitewater places like that but there's 42 teams altogether at least that was the year I comforted in 2008. Okay and and this was this is amateur obviously amateur ball. And and is there are some -- restrictions here. There is no age restrictions and that's what makes -- so unique. And I'm majority. Of beaches of the players you -- -- -- team baseball. Are seen as the guys in Major League Baseball I mean there -- mostly your college each players but -- -- -- of the twenties and thirties. But but what's really unique -- you'll get a couple guys who are like preschool age. -- he'd been -- -- was freshman in high school they usually don't play a big role at that age. But these unique to see that. And then you'll see guys as much as sixty years old playing in the lead right now currently or at least -- the year I covered it in 2008. Former California Angels player berg guy -- -- Richland center Wisconsin and he would still occasionally play with this -- -- even that's just the great thing to see. That is that is amazing as news to me because you know I've always wondered. Did you do you make the transition and when you don't high school or college and he played some high school or College Baseball. The what do you do do you just dip immediately into the beer league softball seen -- are are their least I do know that this Brian one of our sales reps. At are Milwaukee affiliate WS SPN in Milwaukee. One of our sales reps. Does play in and -- a thirty and up baseball league but that was down in northern Illinois. Mom so I always wondered what what do they do for baseball at that point. Yeah I mean there's there's little things around the -- your name speaks like that they don't get much of attention. But yeah I -- mean that this league that I cupboard is. Is any age and there's no restrictions you know there's there's at least be everywhere -- -- you mentioned that helps some sort of you know for seniors that are you know things like that -- all certainty. Thirty you know up -- like that but this is anything it's just eight you know every -- is trying to. Put together. The best local -- -- talent they have regardless of age. And it is really competitive. Yeah I was just gonna say how competitive is this thing I mean it does it. Get to the point -- Little arguments gonna bust out a little bit other are there are different divisions in the playoff structure as it is it that. Unified if you well. There is a playoff structure they have -- regular season the best teams move on to a play off. And day it's more competitive than you'd think. There and one of the stories in the book is actually. Dives into. A ballplayer eligibility. One of the unique rules in this league you'd you'd have to live. Within six miles of home plate of where you -- I you can't play in it but there are certain. You can get releases if you wanna play in a different towel but the town you live in the past to release -- And they're -- arguments from the past them out. Do we release number don't we and I gave -- specific example of a player who wasn't allowed to be released or at least. Not until several weeks weeks after he wanted to and -- even talking right now. About how school choice. Is is impacting. That you know amateur baseball so very unique kid -- rules that they go by. Brian caribou is our guests who wrote a book. The as it's just to -- seem big league drama in small town America. Basically about amateur baseball league. Home talent the only within six miles of home -- love that rule the -- -- now I'll fess up -- of these guys dome Brian. I you know all not doing -- -- -- like the major leaguers or even minor leaguers but I I am surprised a lot of times. I would say if you put together an all star team from the -- and -- league. There's enough talent there that they could compete with a Minor League Baseball team. Who -- and OK okay look -- right. I'll. I'll I'll ball by that okay fine. We're talking about it all star team here you know seeking from -- you know -- -- rosters -- 42 routine so. Sort of belief you know -- they have a lot of work you know I I think I in this league. If they -- -- the opportunity. It took. -- -- and you don't play as much as a minor leaguer they would improve as well. -- I may be wrong Matt -- -- Brian caribou but. My guess is -- thrown probably. In 78 to 82. -- -- Cameron and. Accurate. That would be my guess would that be fair at sounds like -- I'd expect I was thinking to I don't know and -- and I think about a -- and the this is this and it's in sustaining. How does. 442. Teams get filled for a league like this. Yeah -- based certainly -- they take the best talent from their talent and you know a lot of it is kids who are college -- You know they're they're at their colleges during the during the school year and then during the summer the kids come back and you know that's where a lot of their their roster comes from. But but otherwise it's just guys who live in talent. -- -- open myself to work for a living and then -- -- nights and weekends to the game of baseball and and that's what I think makes it really unique. And there was there was. Just a little synapse -- -- read about the book there was some issues about about. Drunk driving yourself like that was at all about. Be bit don't know a couple. Guys do -- you know who who had some it worked hand. -- and accidents. I'll one example. Of a player and -- bill fortunately. Who hey you know was in an accident the driver passed away he survived. Very serious accident you know had. Taken surgery. The -- is slight bit and was actually owned an addiction near dealt. -- not been found he was probably you know within hours that. A passing away himself but but come to bat recovers and is still playing county bespoke that this -- own agenda. Team baseball I'm -- -- Brian this is this -- in the city. Of who gets on the post game show on the Milwaukee affiliate later on this summer -- it's actually -- very cool concept. Didn't know about it thanks for Latin our listeners know about. Home talent league in the state of Wisconsin Brian caribou the name of the book it's just -- -- big league drama and small town America. Very quickly brining a Marty Brennaman on the other side of the break here but to how to we get a hold your book. You go to my web site drawing incurable who got BR ITN. Lastly -- see a double RI VE eight U. And -- ordered the book. Brian and thanks a lot I'll be in such okay. I dare you says that's like -- Geathers sounds like a cool league cool book I'd. Tim Allen in for bill Michaels on the bill Michaels -- -- -- Marty Brennaman up next. Welcome back to the bill Michaels know Tim Allen in for bill today. Who's got some meetings and he's got to Wear a suit and tie and the whole deal of the day that's what he's got -- -- -- -- leg high and brass meeting is kind of a fairly regular situation and it's sort of maybe I don't know let's find out. Reds radio voice of the Cincinnati Reds. Marty Brennaman and Marty thanks for jumping -- with -- my pleasure camp thanks -- -- no problem first of all that said before we get in some baseball stuff. Really is it a golfing day -- bill Michaels today -- Elena was. -- that what -- waters or is that is certainly not a taste of it look at the weather and still looks. To do this you know that. Well I guess -- -- streak report where he was very saw action is given the fact he's not had a day off since August -- tells me I mean. You know I've I've divided. Laughable sometimes when people on our profession to do it -- -- we do that and I'm just exhausted I've got to take days off. You know this year but god blessing you know if that's the case and then you he'll be back soon and everything -- back to normal again. You -- let me let me just say that I would I would have you -- before was a wintertime hot stove show my partner and I had -- -- And we appreciate the time but. I gotta say I was out of place a little bit at Maryville baseball park earlier this spring because here I am just the eldest -- broadcaster Wisconsin. -- at Maryville baseball park in the next Booth over -- you Marty Brennaman the next Booth over was Bob you career. And I'm just trying to pinch myself say I don't belong here first the ball but do you ever. As you just alluded to ever pinch yourself and same man I am just super lucky to be doing what I'm doing. I I -- -- all the time you know I I'd. Reflect upon -- 39 years I've been with -- -- -- and the fact that like Duke you know we've been with only one -- -- which is really unusual you talk about -- -- as being as transient business perfection is. I especially in the big leagues would play by play guys -- actually thinking the grass is greener somewhere else and yeah I'm I'm blessed and I know Bob feels the same way Bob and are good buddies and you know I'm -- in my career whenever that might be. With the same team that started with and that that's very -- usually you can. You can really count on one hand the number of guys Vince -- and Denny Matthews and in Kansas City and Bob indeed even the great ones I mean guys like are well. And people like that work for a number of different club so. Yeah I lay up I constantly tell people wanna speak in the wintertime there's nobody owner who has a better job that I do I -- -- remind myself of that not that I need to because. -- realize how fortunate I am. In this business -- -- with what all of what's going on economically we're all rock and a grateful ending -- -- actually. -- it's almost as if you understand that you are part of their Summers each and every year it's it's like a creature of habit and without that. It's sort of sends a little curve ball into their lives -- its sets very cool. Well that -- that Israeli interest say it's a good point because. For 31 years I work with a guy named Joseph -- -- and we are the longest running radio tandem in the history of baseball with the big league level. Nobody Jack Buck and Mike -- and I think missed by year they would thirty enjoy I would -- -- And we constantly talked about. He did people -- -- this is before cellphones and and -- all the other things that have come out as a result of the Internet. The people that. Really touched us the most. And then this to say it's -- true today. Are the shot in -- people who for whatever the reasons are not able to get out and come to the ballpark. And and basically spend their alive stay in and day out at home. And how we are by virtue of the fact that we're on the base essentially every day with a with the exception of -- -- be here and there. We are in many ways your lifeline. To the outside. And and aunts and it's amazing that -- -- the people who contact us when we head toward the end of the season. And you can tell the sorrow and the text or email of the latter -- whatever might be. Because they know that next week in baseball season's going to hand or Q which are now that the every day broadcasts are gonna come -- -- And how much they truly -- that those folks -- also. Interestingly -- -- big guys who drive over the road. You know -- sixteen -- days how much how much company we are to them. They're driving at night -- -- when they can listen to a ball game and then continue to do their job so. Yeah we we realize. I think anybody who does this job and doesn't even think about that. Is really doing themselves a disservice and they're doing to people that they talked to every night agreed to -- Marty Brennaman joins us and the bill Michael's -- Marty. A reds in town reds kind of feeling themselves -- switching to baseball just for the final minute or two. Reds kind of feeling themselves through the early pars portion of the season as well. -- like the Brewers somebody -- -- now that we've got a month in here Marty the essentials shaken out. Well you know -- what what what's. Caught on with the Brewers is just something that you would never. -- about in your wildest nightmare and that is to suffer the kind of injuries that. That this team is said to deal with -- -- people that they have lost over the last couple weeks. And fortunately our club is not been nearly as bad we lost Ryan Madson in spring training for the entire year. Without even throwing a pitch for our club. Undergoing arm surgery and but aside from that we've been -- healthy team and and so. You're right -- this club -- felt this -- along their one game over the 500 mark. And and I think the future for this team is very bright because I think they're gonna get better the pitching has been sensational. They simply have to get their offense going and I know they will because they're people have done it before. So I'm I'm very optimistic where this club is right now obviously the team to -- is a team that's defending his world championship. And doing a pretty good job of it right now Saint Louis court. It's amazing what those changes of La Russa and and pool -- -- they just it seems like they'd just. Didn't miss a beat man do and do in the post game show here for seven years and as the Cardinals it was the reds as Cubs for a couple of years there and that and now it's a seems this settled into it. Well what we thought was a three team race and maybe it's everybody chasing the Cardinals. Well I'm I'm not so sure that it it won't be a three team race that because for one thing they're not gonna continue at the pace that they're at right now. And I know that based on experience of being around forever -- even the great teams that we had the seventies -- the big red machine teams. They would hit walls in the season where they would lose more than they win over a period of a week or two in the same thing is gonna happen -- Saint Louis. They're not gonna continue with the pace they're playing at right now the thing that clubs like the reds and the Brewers and and whoever else -- themselves as a contender this division you can't allow them. To continue on like they're doing right now and all of a sudden you wake up on. June the first and you're not a half games out of first place you can't let that happen. And I don't think it will happen but it's still there on. The top of the heap in the central and whoever happens to be there on a day in which we talk about such things. That's a team you're trying to beat. That is amazing every time it's you know what every time I say that team cannot continue to do what they do I'm always wrong at you know what Marty. I hope you're right thanks to -- in that cardinal to. You well are you not buy yourself down there a lot of folks at people a second away. Excellent Mardy has been a pleasure talking broadcasting in baseball with you I'm I'm pretty lucky to do that thank you for the time. -- goddamn nice being what you guys. -- -- -- as Marty Brennaman reds radio voice and that is some cool stuff. Him. Being around as long as he has what why is that whenever I say it. Reds or Cardinals or Cubs can't play this -- you kidding me I'm always wrong I hope he's right. That the Cardinals can't play at that pace they're all hitting so far out of their heads. But you gotta think at some point OK and then they're gonna come. -- it was Brooks not gonna have. A Cy Young year isn't that got they've got to come back winning US point when he was -- in about broadcasting being part of someone's life. It's always been that way for me recall the mid seventies. Taken a family vacation. Believe it or not. I think we were the pilot for the movie vacation. Because it was a station wagon and it was a bunch kids in the car. The mom and dad. There was a doubleheader between the Brewers in the Kansas City Royals. And it was just start in game one is were -- and south west it was such a notable thing. Listen -- to two games is we cruise across the across and I love radio baseball based on the radio so good. And isn't just just truly amazing so was that's cool -- in as a said. Broadcasting and and baseball so they're not gonna do golf. Because -- -- mind -- it -- and maybe of the bowling. Bill Michaels bowling. Good happen. I'm Surrey I'm series dominant.
