Cuba are different to Kolb was sitting KO BUSSE and kobasew and died count looking for drivers right now. So you wanna be apart of the program volume do was go to kobasew and dot com KO BUSS Ian Cole buzz send dot com kobasew and died count. And they they bring you each and every Monday Wednesday and Friday. All familiar green and gold insider joining us now here in studio. My Clemens so venables serious radio window to go ankles four start now or how you might. An enlarged aorta an enlarged any order was putting at out on draft day Ian Rapoport. No I mean who's telling a little long and who's telling Ian this what is going on I don't know let's go on non. The day of the draft. The day of the draft yeah. There's probably twenty years 45 teams that know this may mean they all do. Who's to who's put Nat out there is that the team that. It's green right as has scare you have had a scare Malloy incas were afraid he's gonna elevate and we want him on the board. Or is it just somebody says yeah yeah this and rag and NYC 27. And you're. Gonna touch that's. I wanna do that. I get it Anthony's yeah. Do you know. Well you know that rumor start to get hot and heavy day out so you know. It is what it is kind assault like comment. Hey I'm one of the reasons it now we we talked about this haven't kind of previewing and all dated I think it's fascinating but. We are great tennis Subaru all well know and California San Francisco you and I stayed in Sonoma and we ran the group into the girls from Chico California now whole area and the red rock area. And all week long he kept saying I wanna get up there wanna get up there wanna get up there. Because you know we had talked to you know you talked to Aaron about this that we wanted to sit down we cut open may we can talk to his family but he's Diane. And you know maybe not the family but you know coaches and -- no problem. She you had a chance to sit down and chat with some of the coaches which I found fascinating because we needed to do while we were there while I was there. But you took a day or two after the super more kind of run up to a pleasant Valley High School and talked to his guys split com. Aaron Rodgers no college offers. So you're sitting there wondering what your pro career if at all is ever going to be like when your aspirations are to be a pro football quarterback one day. We didn't have any college offers so we kind of had a go route of the community college and figure things out. You know and the thing is is that. We all knew what Brett Favre story was all along the way and then here doing the post game show with his dad mean. And we get to know the whole family. Is we still don't know a lot about Aaron Rodgers and part of that is because. Maybe he saw that Brett and one wanted to keep at them. But I talked to Roger's last fall during the season told him or more of the Super Bowl whoever's going. And I since I want to go to Chico and and learn more about this so I had some discussions we we Wendell for he me a couple of names as scholars started calling it. So you least San Cisco and you get in the car Manny dry for three hours. He'd go past Sacramento which is panel like Madison Wisconsin. It Chico's a nice town it's a ball like Wausau may be a little smaller. Except if you could take Wausau and just move it another two hours north in the middle of the woods. Mean that's what Chico it right you drive past orange grows and flat. And valley. You see some mountains way off in the distance for liked who hours. And then also a little sign coming of says. Welcome to Chamorro Chico is their holder Aaron Rodgers. Not yet not yet but you know well. So you're driving in and then you fine pleasant Valley High School. Which irons may or may not having you do the Carole King song that she wrote for the monkeys back and he pleasant valley somewhat familiar and and and you walk in and the schools got these car ports. Probably built back in the sixties it's a small school it's one floor. There's fifty high schools that are bigger and better in Wisconsin in this thing it's very average. Is matter of fact it looks like a middle school. Home of the Vikings. The mighty Vikings he was a Vikings miss right and there's a sign over the beat up football field where they play their games on Friday night to says. Once a viking always a Vikings. I guess not. And you talk to Ron Souza and I got the feeling a sterling Jackson. Who's a phi at teacher and been the longtime head coach. Good man. More of a defensive guy. I went to some of these coaches because one of the things I wanted to think about was a sterling Jackson by the way for those that don't know as a head coach had a coalition belly high school whereas I valley yeah. But aaron's team decide more with his quarterback coach and his offense a corner. That was really the Gandy confide. And I said to Iran win did you know that you had. A kid of the caliber of Aaron Rodgers in high school. Cheap and achieve what folks in and reporting our crosstown rival for about 9000 people in we are you know by formal. What about a minute. 45 ago and he could go on sixty yard. There were running or go along. Int he ticket on the sixty yard gras. All of which were learning that for me and then in the so call. Yeah we've got twelve guys on the field were in excess but we encourage him to receiver traditional that. We are one running back it off now where we're twelve people on the field. So I started she. Orton didn't say a word he puts into. Like realize we are and what. He's so calm it and throw it when he air strike protesting but it's only twelve no we knew we hope you'll. This special and you so column on the control he knew we had twelve. He knew who we are trying we admit there at a time. We couldn't stop fought so well on the court the so called it looked so normal no we are a little wooden coached will. To me that just aren't you you don't get there from accepting great drive or hit it on the law. Could know the situation or haven't right now just barely Kolb wouldn't be the twelve people no resentment was just incredible to. Now runs low on the went to sterling Jackson head coaches say you know want this it's pretty special now that release. Four of five foot six. Soft more. That's pretty good release he wasn't that strong and had a much muscles. But Ron saw the release and ski and and let him play JV and then when he gets in a game situation like that and puts his hand of the coaches don't. Don't know static I got don't stop the game if you try and its taken time out here we're gonna lose the game there's not enough time in the clock. If we run this play with twelve men on the field and we get away with it won't get the win. That's when he knew that Aaron Rodgers was the next level for a moment ago. We're now. There was interest seek easily the big girls that were in the house next to us they were talking about kind of the -- legend of Aaron Rodgers because it from cheek because they're from Chico California let me explain that. Tom. And they were all talking about people that used to watch him play knew. Meant he was going to be good but Howell. Does this guy from little shield California not get a college night at a. It's a small school math not that big of a program. And there five and five senior here you're losing football games there are always there there in it. And and Darren is frustrated. Because. He knows he's going to be junior is going to be a senior he's working really hard and I talk to the head coach I said what. What can a kid who was this Aaron Rodgers. If you. Were around here in aryan. Was not necessarily. An outwardly outgoing. Type guy like he had those few friends and they knew each other well making joke with each other very well. But Aron was that kid that was always. Surveying. He new rule is going on. Wouldn't hourly you know. Be like that's bad news that spares you exist you're seeing is always. Surveying. Things about you know people but he didn't. I guess open up this year that he just stayed away from that element. Just like he is right now as a quarterback always serving things are always trying to do step that's all right was it just look back. He would see who wanted to kind in his inner circle who we did one of their inner circle. He's seen happ opened up a lot more. As an adult. Venue was. You know you are atlas. So one of the things that helped Aaron Rodgers is an athlete than is father was a personal trainer. Who could only goes soup so far and had three sons and had to figure out a way to bring in more income. So he was gonna go back to school and learn to be a chiropractor. So you gotta father who's always talking about learning about being in touch with the body and that helps you know 1112 year old kid is now seriously get into schools sports. But they had to move and they were away from Chico for a couple years on some aunt and uncle's farm where he had. Who farm team right. Shovel manure wasn't happy about that but when he got back to Chico started going out for the sports and being part of the school and part of the team. He is playing basketball's freshman. And he blows on a meniscus in his knee and doesn't play basketball. For the rest of high school. And we finally meniscus is you don't get it back. Right when she of the surgery. That's it. You know you have meniscus they won a true another sort of just had done I remember that when we a little bit later on we talkers coach from Butte college now one of the things I wanted to ask these coaches this. Bill you went to a huge program it elder at this within the stadium. And I know you had a players and only went on to big schools like yourself like Ohio State but but also into the NFL. I went to a high school those pretty much basketball. And we knew that bill hands like at 67 was the top rated or second highest rated kid in the state playing basketball. And we eat you think OK he'll probably get a good college offer but you still don't know it's and he wrecked you don't. And built we get stacks of mail every day. From these big school programs and end the day the digger Phelps locked in the gym and offered and a come to Notre Dame and then also all over with and that's ray went. We'll build one on the play in the NBA for like twelve years and he was a head coach when you're the Bobcats got a great crew Murton with the Sonics in with the Nuggets. And later you say see yeah of course Diana which you don't quite know. And I asset of these coaches what was your experience when you were a coach or player. In school in sterling the sterling Jackson his head bit Aaron Rodgers had coached at pleasant Valley High School in Chico California sent. Now there's one guy played with there was our football and basketball team that was Scott Williams. 611. Played for the Chicago Bulls Cavaliers with the Milwaukee Bucks. Yeah we pretty much knew that he was probably so that's it's. Any of these high school coaches today in Wisconsin you wonder if they've got a an opportunity where they played along side or they saw. A future NFL or NBA or Major League Baseball player what does that look like it's seventeen or eighteen what can you do to help that kid get to the next level. When Aaron Rodgers gets to the end of his senior year and their five and five point five and three in the conference. There's a lot of games they come close he puts a lot of points up. But they lose because of their defense. And at the end of the year he talks to around Souza and east is asking around is like anything every call no calls no calls. Nothing. At that point Aron is a senior nice don't think and maybe it's over maybe a go to law school. I don't know and he would talk about it and here's what sterling said. Here I asked them would you think Aaron Rodgers going to be midway. Through his senior year at the end of in his final year playing in high school football pleasant valley. We thought that he is going to be back our finance bias. You know we talk about you want to be in the finance he wanted to do these things you know this. This kid's going to be air finance I have 21 day he's gonna go. You know when he's 1617. We we tell our kids if you want to continue playing football you know like I did there's a place for you. It might not be where you you know your dream to us in history Moscow. There's a place for you. Well he proved us wrong because. He is like no there's not just a place for me how many kid to my victory. And he did it. Interest and there is no mean some guys you say I know memory of player one day and then something happens in this or I really thought I was going to be but it seems like. For everybody that underestimated Aaron Rodgers he used knew this is my path is who I'm going to be in his Ormond and. So you know he respected his head coach sterling but his guy really is advisor his mentor was Ron's front Susan offensive coordinators who when we do now. He goes here's what you need to do. Get in the baseball I'm gonna coached baseball teams ranked among my baseball team keep active. And we'll just see where plays on liked that maybe maybe he'll be a baseball player who knows a guy comes in season pitch. And that's what gets into the next that. Well Roy and they're quick prayer will come back we'll have more of this we're a talk with so my Clemens who's joining us here in studio you're gonna hear from Greg really Craig ridge be the head coach at Butte community college about Aaron Rodgers will talk more about the draft coverage tonight as well. Stick around more though Michael sure after this. This is the marsh feel close make Michael sports talk it's. Back Phil why don't show is on the air Seth Everett. And it cousins jobs it's the pepperoni mouth that's the one it's highly recommended by yours truly along the side radio Joseph cheese Kurds however if you want to chicken. All hot off the grill it cousins subs download the apple on Europe when your android phone or just go to cousins subs dot com cousins subs. You deserve better Mike Clemens joining us here in studio Mike is going to be you're going to be at Atlanta Motor and I gripe for our. Draft coverage right after we leave here we had up there and get set up to do reports updates all weekend which a gut telling you right now. Directly in thing that makes sense everybody's on everybody's bored to green Bay's gonna take a 27. Now every year we go through this and we except for AJ hawk and I know. And but he is ever really predicted who Ted Thompson took in the first Pat Kirwan of nfl.com actually projected predicted. Before. Back in tee. Which was pretty amazing. But the just and Harrelson. In a hot Clinton Dick's we when he came on we said. It be nice if he's still there right anyone say whether he lacy. And a so there's a number of players that it be interest in to find out of the players that were predicted that Ted Thompson would take late in the first round. What that all star team would look like today where they all went. It's funny because we're just sitting here saying the last couple years it's now facility that we predicted who's going to take but when you start to look at the players available. As the board starts to dwindle down you can kinda get a gauge and say okay here's the top five guys you probably like to city. And then the last couple years I think between meaning Gary we probably kind of got it right okay we did see this guy coming we knew this was coming. But it wouldn't so I wouldn't say the percentage wise I would say for them to stand pat is probably 78. To move up is probably. Ten at best. And a move down and get more picks is probably 20%. The Ron Wolf system of doing this that Ted runs -- goes by his Bible is first after you've graded out all these players 30400 players. And you grade them on that let's say a scale from 010100. Being the best. Then you put doubles a numerical value. The next thing is that another value to this is not only the position like left tackles more value than right tackle. Is the rounds. At some point the Packers say you've got to have a 93 year better. For the value we consider a first round pick and we know this because in 2005. When Aaron Rodgers went at 24. He was Alaska and it Ted NN as bored as worthy of a first round pick. So think of that mean if there's 32 picks and a first round. He was the last one. How many players did cant have up on the board in the 2005 draft he thought were worthy of her first round pick fun I have 1015. Brett we don't know we could guess. But that means that a dozen or more players came off the board. And the kid from cal was still there any sticks to those numbers. And if there's nobody there and a first round he's probably on the phone and calling because. I've got a kid that I ranked and 87. That's not a first rounder. And now we can probably get him in the second round let's straight down get to. And that's the way this thing works. So. Ted said last week to you know sometimes it's hard to come up with 27 players to put up there in the first round. Mean which might be a little bit of an indication. At the end of the day we've talked so much about inside linebacker needs now build defensive line needs. Now the BJ raji suddenly balls out. You know for a year or forever. An L suspended. I got tape watching those games against the Cardinals again. At the end of last season it wasn't the defense that was the problem it was the offense. It was our third and seven. It was not having a big play on first down. It's been what the receivers. There's a kid named Fuller. Who. Think the Bengals are projected to take a couple of ticks up above the Packers it's on a Notre Dame and I can't remember the last time that. Ted got a kid out of Notre Dame and Ryan Grant has 1000 trade but yeah I got him from New York in the this this is a guy that's six foot runs a 4340 it's got the speed okay hands but he's got the speed. Maybe that's a guy that drops like ha ha Clinton Dick's Woolsey but I I would I wouldn't be I'd be happy. If they got speed at wide receiver and people were screaming at the re hearings we could Jordy Nelson back calf from any Syria. Yeah all about time Montgomery yet quote we were we were happy to see him walk in 23 weeks ago at an awards show. Dovonte Adams was injured most of last season and Randall Cobb disciples in a phone banks and 282930. The recent ads are beat up the reason the speed isn't there is not necessarily because they're getting older it's 'cause. They're not coming back from injuries like they used to even take in this abuse for seven senators in the NFL. And Jordy Nelson's not gonna get any faster either. The only fast guy got as jest Janice. And he didn't seem to connect with the quarterback until we absolutely needed him on a hail Mary in the playoff game that you lost in overtime so. That's a mean that's a neat I think that we need need to be looking at for the Green Bay Packers as they can distract this weekend and they can do that artists. Third round I've been insane and people thought I'm kind of crazy talking about the one receiving corps but it. One guy seemingly derailed an entire offense last year that I should have a go down again what you can do and they had a couple of kids last year there were in camp there or undrafted that the did have some speed. Some that they were pretty interest in the injury and the blues and for the season so there. We need to speedster. In that policy this will pick up where we left off in the the first segment regarding Aaron Rodgers and summoned his has some and is growing up from maturing as a quarterback. Coming up through high school and into the college ranks you're gonna hear a lot of those interviews with Micah Clements your windshield coming up next on the Michael show. Dot com joining us here in studio my clemens' medical serious radio going to be part of our draft night coverage tonight. As yours truly Gary Ellis in the former packer and badger himself and also. Paul limit our greening Owens set a we're going to be on the stage of the Q club of Wisconsin tonight from six to eleven covering the draft my Clemens is going to be up inside Lambeau Field. For the first round we got a completely blanketed for yet and going back to talking about Aaron Rodgers might. On the you gotta gee it'd to talked his coaches former athletic turn the athletic director at you know is high school. He ended just kind of about his development we've gone through the high school phase of this now he moves in almost to the Butte community college because that was his only pass to get to a major Kolb. Yeah I'd psyched as spring at 2002. And nag aaron's graduating from high school it's plates in baseball. And I asked to Craig Grigsby who was his head coach it be this is the turning point. This is the opportunity. That Aaron Rodgers needed. This might it saved his career and ability to get to the NFL. Not as I said earlier I asked these coaches who Juno in high school or college age you played along side. I'm Craig Grigsby was a tackle and he played that you tossed state at Erik apple. As a quarterback played with the Lions they had rule on Jones defensive linemen went to play for the Broncos added offensive line coach. Who is just start now with his wife there to live in the dorms a guy named rod turned now. So we can refer from a pretty good group there in Utah and Craig after finishing and playing football said you know. And so you know I go to law school but I they've invited me to hang around be a coach now after I graduate. That's how we got into coaching Bob did move back to his hometown in Chico got involved with the program in Butte had been to Butte for seventeen years. One of the kids and that that really did well their program Larry Allen came from the Napa Valley area. Reunite state didn't but he said that was almost like a blind side story earned Larry Allen going to the hall of fame Greg as an offensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys. And I said 22 Craig Riggs be the head coach at Butte. When did you first censure Eisen Aaron Rodgers. The very first time. Is going into his junior year we do we get a big passing league camp here. All the local high schools around here. He's out here and their coaches and talk to them and they say hey this kid's pretty good he's got a real quick really should note not really being like six foot one lady once and the five. Andy's got to you know maybe maybe not in the six foot maybe 51117. B skinny and and I are hit eucharist that he had a got to hurt me that it hurts he hurt his knee in basketball like eighth grader or ninth grade. He hurt his knee. But never got fixed yet are stories on his plate but that is whole time he only got to fix what went tally wouldn't you know hurting here and play it for us now. He said or heard him all the time pleased and didn't want same things where this knee brace and but I hate us got a quick excuse pretty good and then then I start watching them. That summer and then and they and you know he had a good junior. Them. Oh maybe he's gonna get recruiter but I think you because I thought maybe get recruit and I never forget he went to a camp in Illinois that summer as the quarterback coach. For PD his own goal. Was the head coach Illinois. Partner's name but here's brother both of those norv Turner's brother and so it was one turner Brothers and he was echoes. On their forget. Ron Turner told me I don't know we got three or for the guys that are better than you and you know we've we wouldn't want to walk on is we're two good scored. Ron Turner. Lovie Smith's offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears rank. Was at Illinois and said Aaron Rodgers now we're gonna go or back we're gonna go back to Chico. And so ice talked to Craig some more about this edit and Craig said sell ice I saw that Aron had the motion. And Ron seuss and sterling Jackson they were telling me how Smart to skew ones. So he said and I went someplace in baseball teams pitch and first game Mikey goes he throws 93 miles an hour. 93 miles an hour. And so he says I want to every one Aaron Rodgers baseball games that spring and that summer. Because. I was afraid a baseball Scott was gonna see this guy. I'll lose and to some some form team. And at one point Arendt said you know it's OK man I'm you know working the talked yeah nope don't worry about it you don't have to come all my games and I said so what was it like. When you recruited Aaron Rodgers and this is the head coaching Craig at to Butte college Craig Grigsby. Is outs difficult separate it thirty yards away sort of walked in my door. Walked to feel what to nickles. And it's one dollar lapses follow accident or. She's the nicest lady but she says. An air of foolish mark I ask is it three point nine 40 whatever really good as it. If she's that cushion is going to be on Cipro with him myself were too hard to go to Jericho little one goes on and those were two ordered school. The dad you're the errant came him. And data on set and his brother little Basil brother wasn't there was little brother program is about eleven or twelve hour Jordan he would run round. So. I start off that's when the academics tone that you know these are the exact same classes you're gonna have to force with you went to Stanford cal. You know Harvard doesn't matter you got to English 101 history one on one. And exactly the same credit card called in general education today. If you agent history Butte college or stamp for the where 1812 to eighteen. And there's nobody and I suddenly change did you go to Stafford. So they left and I use use that as an out so they left and and then I said okay. Position why should your quarterback and it's here's who we have coming back us want everybody to know that Bears will cause of races got you there. Goats I really don't care who you have come and that. Eagles ice and actually won questions look and I did ask one question I said okay what eagles' well first of all. I needed normal I gonna get a legitimate shot to play you give me a chance to beat whoever yeah about us and there's absolutely no question we had never promise. Start in but you have to earn it on the field and he said OK good that's just want my box is checked opposite number two. Said if I have a great you're gonna get after one year contracts are back at that rate ago. And I think of myself slowed problem here you know I'm recruited by anybody. Our time Utley and after one year I said absolutely if I can get you out after one year and you're that good we will put shoes on what we've done now that the kids. How could we just had we decided not such a lineman to a two years before. It was a four point played one year for us Wednesday effort and like ten years cosmetics or money. But he played everything's done or will also. A native parks can of course you're right there was sixty players for the Chiefs and the Raiders for a long time in there. Mark brings up some cookies talk a little bit it's on planned an army men count me in Oakland and you have a world com interview room that's that's what I'm doing. That's how we recruited him. And walked to the field knocking his door and his mom says no and he should try to play and he's again and it ago he'd he'd realize it what do you call those coaches have pleasant valley said where they live not far from me over there in the south cited Chico so we walked across a field. To go knock on the door. So then. You get he gets Aaron to sign up for Butte college and brings a myth and I said what was Aaron Rodgers like when you brought him into camp he had a beat out. A veteran quarterback that they had at Butte community couch. Young quarterbacks went really good really good and so parents played really good ball the reply and really it's and it's about about the a fifth or six practice. And he's in shock thing take to snap he has spurt right he sprints right you classes right foot which is vintage now. Runs that left the running to left and explosive dime about 45 yards its government hands guy catches and I'd just. There are coaches did you see that I didn't see them put the must on the ball effectively dole ball and out like that it is improbable using dangle. You know he's got the shoulders and that league network news spun on what did you see that and I apologize on that. I've got our quarterbacks as of course equipment under him the ball that amendment or that fast front. And we tell you about Butte it's a small school as well it looks more like a high school their field is. Very modestly and released the seats at the fielder from Fulton county stadium. When they tore that down which is by the way were Brett Favre was warming up for the Falcons when Ron Wolf spotted on current okay. So then I went on to say all right so you get into camp. How did Aaron Rodgers become your starter even though we as a freshman. At this community count everything was done. As a quarterback more complete really good. And most of coaches like all of us Brian Cushing deserves he's probably been here. Aaron really good he deserves he's better he's been here he's he's he's a sophomore he's done a stuff. And actually dwell on it just tell you. And has lap but I left but this is like it was just us or just. Gradually go. But he that was for three years. Ever was for two weeks and he's already knows office better he started better. Maybe this much in a month he's going to be this much better and sure enough. So he's on his star. And that's it although Tomo right now and that's where it is that's it until rational one keeping and used this as the wanna keep in the program now pitching in opiate. We'll do all the stuff. So yeah. Yeah. No it is not an end and an up about this because. So we're playing in the first game so couple or coaches or cut this year and started you know we play airs just like that. Right Sweden put in a play first quarters playing great so what we're doing our thing. So people put in a play we put Bryant because they know it wasn't put him as a receiver slot receiver but trips and emotion are no backs. And that we threw a screen a backup screened on the air ready to a touchdown Aaron in the first quarter. So that was a great player his ops or errant throw for three touchdowns and caught one by halftime brisket. So them. We had a really good tight end that loss went to cal. So then this about happen to the third quarter wrote like four gear cross. I know he was a make team you want go out and now I know. Kyrie crossed. In 2005. Was brought in by Ted Thompson and Mike Sherman you know who's in training camp. And after a couple weeks he at this great practice we practice inside Lambeau Field that day. He was taken passes from. Brett Farr from Aaron Rodgers the kid looked great. And the next day was on the field I know what's going on you get hurt Mike Shula said he quit. Dart is never I don't younger and came when he quit.
